2008 Habitat for Humanity Build

UPUMC is partnering with Wachovia Bank on this year's Habitat for Humanity Build, which will be every Saturday from Sept. 13 to Nov. 1. Please contact Jill Fleming to sign up or to get more information.

Veterans are needed and apprecitated, and amateurs are welcomed and encouraged! You'll need to sign a waiver, which is included in this downloadable information packet. (You'll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view.)

Learn more about Habitat for Humanity on their Web site, and see the list of Frequently Asked Questions below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I have to stay the whole day?
A. We'd love to have you whenever! Let Jill know your time commitment.

Q. Can I drive myself there since I want my car to leave when needed?
A. Absolutely! There is very limited parking, so the Habitat folks encourage us to carpool. We'll meet at the church at 7:30 a.m. each Saturday to caravan or bus. See the information packet for a map if you need to take your own car. Please let Jill know if you won't be carpooling with us.

Q. Can my kids come?
A. Habitat guidelines dictate the age parameters. Youths 16 and older are welcome. Bonus: They get service hours! On Nov. 1 (landscaping day), kids 14 and 15 years old may participate.

Q. Do I need tools? What about work gloves?
A. Habitat provides tools and gloves! If you have a special hammer you love, label it and bring it. If it brings out the "builder" in you, definitely bring it! If you have lucky gloves, wear them!

Q. What about lunch?
A. Lunch is provided by either Wachovia or our UPUMC church family. It will be served on site. If you would like to help provide lunch on Sept. 27, Oct. 11 or Oct. 18, let Jill know.

Q. Can I have my children cared for while I'm working?
A. Absolutely! To reserve church-provided childcare, call the childcare reservation line at 214.368.1435, ext. 325, no later than the Wednesday before you intend to volunteer.
